Something's Fishy
Oh my! My baby boy turned ONE year old last Saturday. We had a small, fishy birthday party for him, complete with fishy cupcakes and a golfish cake.
Yes, I know that fondant makes a cake look a little more polished and "complete," but let's face it, no one really wants to eat fondant. That's why I pretty much avoid it.
Baby boy was a little slow at getting into the cake spirit, but after a few minutes he figured out how yummy that orange golfish frosting really was.
Happy Birthday, Baby Boy!

Squirt!
Thank you!, Pineterest! Aren't these adorable? I stole the idea from Pinterest for my niece's first birthday party. They were a little more time consuming than I had planned, but worth it in the end.

A Very Berry Birthday
This morning we had my daughter's "friend" birthday party. She opted for the Strawberry Shortcake theme again and I was pleased to find cupcake toppers that fit the bill!
These cupcakes were made from scratch and are vanilla very berry. Inside you'll bite into a sweet mix of strawberries, rasberries and bluberries. After baking a homemade jelly type sauce is piped into the middle and then covered with creamy butter frosting.

Happy 4th Birthday!
My sister made the cutest Strawberry Shortcake birthday cake for her daughter's birthday. As soon as my little girl saw it she fell in love and wanted one just like it for her own 4th birthday.
I varied from my sister's just a bit, but kept the same gist. My daughter absolutely loved it. I can't believe she's already FOUR!

Train-tastic
I can't believe my baby is not my baby anymore. He's TWO! He was all too excited for his train cake. I'm sure it would have looked more "finished" had I used fondant, but the truth is that no one really likes to eat fondant. I prefer to ice.

Happy 30th, Josh!
You know how in elementary school you bring cupcakes to share with the entire class to celebrate your own birthday? Well, Josh never did that growing up. Actually, no one in Samoa did that growing up. This year we decided to bring cupcakes to Josh at work to share with his co-workers to help celebrate. Chocolate on chocolate on chocolate. Yum.

Dora the Explorer
I made these for my daughter's 3rd birthday party. I've decided that I thoroughly enjoy making cupcakes way more than making cakes. They're so much more fun, and always turn out cuter!

2010: South Africa: World Cup: USA
Second attempt at making and using fondant. I used a different recipe/technique then I used last time. This was 100x better. Can't wait to try something new with it!
